What is a service dog?

A service dog is a dog that is trained to perform specific tasks to assist a person with a disability. The disability can be physical, sensory, psychiatric, or intellectual.

Service dog training is not limited to one breed or type of dog, but there are characteristics that make some dogs more suitable than others. Service dogs should not present with significant fear, anxiety, reactivity or aggressive behaviour and should be adaptable to a number of public environments. While any dog can learn tasks and behaviours necessary for service work, not all dogs have the correct temperament to be successful. Selecting dogs who are well-suited to this work is necessary for both human and animal welfare.

Structure

With daily structured activities, supervised socialization, and real-world exposure, we start puppies off with solid foundation for future service dog work.

Professionalism

Designed and led by professional service dog trainers, our service dog program uses proven techniques to ensure reliable behaviours and lasting success.
