structure

With daily structured activities, supervised socialization, and real-world exposure, we start puppies off with solid foundation for future service dog work.

A service dog is a dog that is trained to perform specific tasks to assist a person with a disability. The disability can be physical, sensory, psychiatric, or intellectual.

Service dog training is not limited to one breed or type of dog, but there are characteristics that make some dogs more suitable than others. Service dogs should not present with significant fear, anxiety, reactivity or aggressive behaviour and should be adaptable to a number of public environments. While any dog can learn tasks and behaviours necessary for service work, not all dogs have the correct temperament to be successful. Selecting dogs who are well-suited to this work is necessary for both human and animal welfare.

Most service dogs take 18-24 months to be fully trained and reliable in real-world environments. Every dog progresses at a different page. Factors like temperment, genetics, environment, and how consistently training is practiced all play a role. Training typically happens in stages, starting with early foundations and socialization, moving through adolescence, and eventually building advanced skills and public access reliability. Service dog training is a long-term commitment, but with the right support, it becomes a clear and managable process.

Most clients can expect to invest approximately $9,000-$14,000+ over the first 1-2 years, depending on their goals, pace, and level of support. This typically looks like: Early foundations training, ongoing private lessons, and group classes for real-world practice. The clients who see the most success tend to start early, ideally before selecting a dog. This allows us to guide you through choosing the right candidate and setting up strong foundations from the start. Service dog training is a long-term process but with the right plan in place, it becomes clear, managable and effective.
