Get to Know Danielle: Our New Hire

Meet Danielle, a dog training apprentice with Spot on Dogs! We say down with her to ask her a few questions about her journey so far.

Q: What is your favorite part about working with dogs?

A: Their ability to always be present and take happiness from the simple things.

Q: Why did you decide to pursue this as a career?

A: I received a fully trained service dog and my entire world was changed. Because of the impact that Murphy has had on my life, I knew I wanted to create positive change in the world someday via service dogs.

Q: What is your experience and training?

A: I Volunteer at both obedience and puppy classes, shadowing professional sessions under Shannon’s guidance. I have completed a comprehensive educational program: Professional Dog Training: Science and Application from the IABCC. I also just recently proudly completed the Resolving Reactivity course by Spot On Dogs!

Q:What do you believe is to be true about training effectively?

A: I find that using anything your dog naturally enjoys, such as treats, toys, or praise, is the most effective way to shape their behavior. It’s crucial to create a continuous loop of reinforcement, meaning that with each successful repetition of the desired behavior, your dog should immediately receive a reward they love. This helps them understand what behavior is being rewarded and encourages them to repeat it consistently.

Danielle’s passion for dogs combined with her dedication to ongoing learning ensures that she will continue to make a significant impact in the world of dog training and we are so lucky to have her!
